Under the hood
What the audit actually looks for.
Every check maps to a real ranking signal, a real accessibility standard, or a real legal risk. Here's what we scan and why it matters.
SEO Fundamentals
The on-page signals Google looks at first. Missing or misconfigured, they limit your visibility regardless of how good your content is.
- Title tag — presence and length (30–60 chars)
- Meta description — presence and length (70–160 chars)
- H1 heading — present, singular, not duplicated
- Canonical tag — prevents duplicate content penalties
- Open Graph tags — title, description, image for social sharing
- Robots meta — flags noindex directives that block Google
- robots.txt — accessible and not blocking crawlers
- JSON-LD structured data — schema markup presence
Accessibility — WCAG 2.1
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. Level AA is the legal standard courts apply to business websites. These are the most commonly failed checks.
- Images missing alt text (SC 1.1.1 — Level A)
- Form inputs without accessible labels (SC 1.3.1 — Level A)
- Missing language attribute on <html> (SC 3.1.1 — Level A)
- Skip navigation link (SC 2.4.1 — Level A)
- ARIA landmark regions — main, nav, header, footer
- Heading level skips — broken document outline
- Empty or generic link text (SC 2.4.4 — Level A)
- iframes without title attributes (SC 4.1.2 — Level A)
- Viewport meta blocking user zoom (SC 1.4.4 — Level AA)
- Positive tabindex values breaking tab order
ADA Exposure
Title III of the ADA applies to business websites. Demand letter attorneys use automated tools to find violations — this scan runs the same checks they do.
- Missing alt text on images — the #1 cited violation
- Unlabeled form fields — a common lawsuit trigger
- Missing skip navigation — required for keyboard users
- No language declaration — fails screen readers
- Viewport zoom disabled — Level AA failure, frequently cited
- Empty buttons and links — inaccessible to screen readers

Be honest about the limits
What this scan won't catch.
This is a surface scan of your page's HTML — fast and useful, but not a replacement for a full manual audit. Here's what requires a deeper look.
Color contrast ratios
Contrast requires computed CSS values — not available from raw HTML. A full audit uses browser rendering to measure actual contrast ratios against the 4.5:1 WCAG AA minimum.
JavaScript-rendered content
Single-page apps and JS-heavy sites may return an empty shell. If your site renders content via React, Vue, or similar frameworks, a browser-based audit is needed.
Focus indicator visibility
Whether keyboard focus rings are visible requires visual inspection. Many sites remove outlines with CSS — something only a manual review catches.
Screen reader behavior
How a page actually reads in NVDA, JAWS, or VoiceOver requires real testing. ARIA attributes can be present but implemented incorrectly — that only shows up in a full audit.
Touch target sizes
WCAG 2.5.5 requires touch targets of at least 44×44px. This requires rendered layout — not available from HTML source alone.
SEO off-page factors
Domain authority, backlink profile, Core Web Vitals performance, and keyword rankings require additional tools beyond a single-page HTML scan.
